Translation
Patavaṉ, that man (avvaṉ) (of) Vēḷūr.
Locus
Engraved along the length of a fragmentary megalithic menhir (memorial stone or herostone) found in an urn-burial field at Pulimankombai. Presently in the collections of the Department of Epigraphy, Tamil University, Thanjavur (Rajan et al 2006). The inscription appears to be complete even though the menhir is broken. The second word in L. 1 in much larger characters seems to have been added after the rest of the inscription was engraved.

Notes
1. ta in lieu of tā expected in TB-1 orthography.
2. vēḷ-ūr. A place name in two segments.
3. -avvaṉ is considered here as a pronominal suffix added to the place name to indicate nativity. cf. LT avvōṉ 'he, that man' (D. 1). Rajan et al read Avvaṉ as a personal name. See ETE 2, Commentary (92.1).
4. patavaṉ. A personal name.
