. . . Kaḻumāṟa Nataṉ caused to be given the drip ledge (tāraṇi) ;

Notes
1. The commencement of the inscription is lost.
2. The letter is reversed by scribal error.
3. HKS reads ṭṭha and KVS ṟa.
4. HKS reads ṭū and KVS ṟa.
5. There is no symbol after this letter. (The pair of symbols in KVS seems to be a typographical error.) There is a gap of about 15 cm. between this and the next inscription (45) in the same line.
6. A fragmentary word which cannot be interpreted.
7. kaḻu-, a variant of kaṭu; māṟa- from Māṟaṉ, a Pāṇṭiya dynastic name. cf. Kaṭumāṉ Māṟaṉ, N. of a Pāṇṭiya king. See ETE 2, Commentary (44.1).
8. nataṉ < nantaṉ with omission of the nasal.
9. tāraṇi- 'drip ledge'. See ETE 2, Commentary (44.2) for revised interpretation.
10. koṭuppitta-avaṉ (cf. LT koṭuppittavaṉ).
