Translation
The hermitage (paḷḷi) (is the gift) of Ariti of Eḻaiyūr.
Locus
On the brow of the cave at the foot of the Pañcapāṇṭavar-kuṭṭu hill; partly overwritten by a later Tamil inscription located just above.

Notes
1. The lower left corner of the letter appears incomplete in the estampage due to shallow engraving.
2. HKS and KVS read ṭhu.
3. What HKS described as 'the mark of interrogation' or 'a damaged Aśōkan kha' between the 8th and 9th letters, is a part of the overwriting in modern Tamil characters.
4. eḻai- is probably a variant of eḍai (LT iṭai). See ETE 2, Commentary (34.1.a).
5. aritiṉ is construed as ariti + (i)ṉ 'of Ariti'.
