Translation
(At) the abode of ascetics (uṟaiyuḷ) of this hill: the venerable (patantaṉ) Āritaṉ of Ēri (and) Araṭṭa Kāyipaṉ, expounder of meaning (of the scriptures) (atta-vāyi).

1. HKS reads ḍu and KVS ṟa.
2. HKS and KVS also read u.
3.HKS reads ḍai and KVS ṟai.
4. The character ḷ was identified by HKS in this inscription.
5. HKS reads pā and KVS nā.
6. HKS reads ā and KVS a.
7. HKS identified the 'clear dot' after this letter as the anusvāra. Rechecking in situ has shown it to be only a natural feature.
8. This is the earliest known occurrence of the puḷḷi identified by Jebarajan and Siromoney (1978).
9. iv- 'this'. cf. iv-muḻa(v)ukai- (90). See ETE 2, Commentary (60.1) for the revised interpretation.
10. The suffix tū for tu (LT -ttu) is archaic.
